The older we get the harder it is to lose weight. When you’re over 50 it seems damn near impossible. What we used to do for weight loss doesn’t work anymore. As men, we accumulate belly fat and just avoid looking in the mirror. But I’ve discovered 4 simple weight loss tips for men over 50 that work to reduce belly fat and drop pounds.

There is limited exercise involved so this isn’t going to make you look like you did in your 20’s. It’s just going to help you get the scale going in the right direction.  And get that belly to flatten out a bit. Unless you do get way into the exercise. You then CAN make a huge change in your body.

Here are 4 Simple Weight Loss Tips
for Men Over 50

1. Fast for 16 hours a day

If you’ve never consciously done this before it may seem like a radical shift. It’s not. Just don’t eat between dinner and breakfast. If you eat dinner at 7 pm don’t eat again until 11 am. Simple.

In addition to losing weight and belly fat, intermittent fasting has some other pretty amazing benefits. According to intermittent fasting can reduce insulin resistance lowering the risk of Type 2 diabetes. Other benefits include reduced inflammation and a potentially longer lifespan. It may even help prevent cancer.

2. Move your body everyday

This is a huge must, guys. This is a no joke, no BS, get off your butt and do it kind of a thing. You need to get your body moving to get blood flow going and get your organs functioning properly. Humans are not meant to be sedentary. When you hit 50, bodily functions, hormones, and everything else slows. You’ve got to ‘keep it movin’. I’m way into this topic and wrote about it at How to Restore Vitality Over 50 and Beyond.

Here’s the good news. You don’t have to run 3 miles every day. It would be great if you did and you can build up to that if you want. But at minimum go for a brisk walk in the morning after your coffee. Just get the heart rate up for 30 minutes or so. Is 30 minutes a day too much for your body to ask?

The very best guide to exercise for us older folks is a book called, Younger Next Year. If you do nothing else for yourself in 2020, get this book and read it.

3. Make the last meal of the day a light meal

If you're used to eating steak and mashed potatoes for dinner don’t do that anymore. Do you know how hard that is to digest?

"A steak dinner can take you two, maybe three days to get out of your intestine. What that means is the way you digest it is basically to rot it in your intestines. On the other hand, if you eat vegetables and fruits, they're out of your system in less than 12 hours." - Dr. Mehmet Oz, Vice-Chair and Professor of Surgery at Columbia University as published in

Here’s what we (my wife Shirley and I) do. We eat soups, salads, and vegetables for dinner. Not all at one dinner, we just mix it up throughout the week. This does a lot of good things for you. It satisfies the need for your belly to be full but doesn’t make you feel like a beached whale. You may even want to go for a walk after dinner or get some things done around the house.

The real key is that your body slows down when you sleep including your digestive system. Don’t give your belly something hard to digest for the last meal of the day. If you need to eat meat, eat it for lunch.

4. Help your body function better with natural nootropics

The topic of Nootropics might be new to you but it’s a big deal and worthy of you spending time to learn about it. Nootropics are natural substances that you’ve ingested all your life to help your brain trigger responses in your body like releases of certain hormones.

Just like everything else when you get older, your brain doesn’t fire these triggers like it used to, so you need to give it a little nudge. Nootropics are amino acids and other necessary nutrients.

To really dive into Nootropics read these two articles:

But if you don’t want to become a nootropics expert here’s the easiest thing to do. If you already drink coffee, drink Logiq™ with Tetrablend™ Coffee.
